Cultura y Libertad (Culture and Freedom) was founded by young people from various districts of Medellin and the Valle de Aburra region in Colombia who came together to create a hip hop organization based on the themes of culture and freedom. Cultura y Libertad use art and hip hop as a means of resisting and creating an alternative to violence in their communities and as tool for social change. Through art, the organization aims to educate young people about human rights, civil rights, as well as give them training in citizen journalism, audio visual production and project management.


The song Tierra Mágica (Magic Land) was born out of the necessity to show the world the ways we have here in Colombia to resist the violence that has plagued this country for so many decades. The message of the song is to remind people there are alternative visions and realities to the ones that are often imposed upon us by the state or society.
